Interests

I specialize in environmental and social determinants of health. Guided by the socio-ecological model of health promotion, my research agenda is driven by three key questions: (1) How do environments shape health behaviors and related health outcomes? (2) To what extent are inequalities in health driven by inequalities in environmental and social determinants? and (3) To what extent can environmental and policy features serve to reduce health inequalities? The first question has been the focus of my studies on activity friendly environments and health, while the second and third has been the focus of my research on the urban nature, health and health inequalities. You’re welcome to read more on my research in the School of Public Health Newsletter

Based on the knowledge and skills gained during my Masters’ in Public Health (University of Haifa), and my PhD in Urban and Regional Planning (Technion), my research methods are diverse and include quantitative (e.g., statistical and spatial analysis) and qualitative (e.g., walk-along interviews, cognitive mapping) approaches. My research covers different world regions (e.g., Middle-east, Latin America, International) and geographical scales ranging from individuals’ activity spaces (e.g., children’s walking routes and outdoor play areas) through neighbourhoods and cities to metropolitan regions.
